So today, I decided to channel the river into the cavern I found. I read that rivers are infinite water sources, so that should flood it Very Happy

    Why? WHY NOT! 8D

I can drown Forgotten Beasts this way!

Okay, so I actually did research and discovered that the water would just drain out. Shame.

Instead, I routed the river underground into a collection pool in my fortress. I'm a little unsure whether the dwarves will actually use it. It's got the 7 depth mark, but the game classified it as open space. Will the dwarves use it? I installed a raising bridge to serve as a plug in the passage. I think I'll be a dick and open that up when Gobbos arrive. I'm eager to see if they're stupid enough to try to swim through a few yards of water to get into my fortress if there's no other way.

Unfortunately, I made the ultimate fail of not documenting what my levers do, so I accidentally closed the front entrance to my fortress a time or two... and three dwarves were dumbass enough to mill around the bridge while I closed it.

Let's all have a moment of silence for Urist McScience, Urist McAtomsmashed, and Urist McWhythefuckwereyoustandinginfrontofaraiseddrawbridgeyouidiot.

You just need to create a zone around it and designate it as a water source.

The water pit works Very Happy

I caught my dwarves... bathing in it... and the water pit is in the farm area.

    Wow, what perverts .    _ .

In other news... I have a baron now. SHIT!

The goods news is I have Platinum up to my eyeballs, so I have my metalcrafters churning out platinum furniture. One of my crafters completed a strange mood and became a Legendary Engraver, so I set him to work engraving the entire bedroom area. His speed is effing scary.

I have quite a few, actually.

Right now I need to get my metalworkers working faster so I can get Steel production going. My military is still mostly unarmed and wearing clothes XD

I've got so much damn chalk I began allowing the dwarves to build shit with it.

I dunno, I run out of chalk and have to look for Marble instead? :p

And then while doing that, I run into Adamantium and dig into the carnival?

True. You'd think my dwarves would be trailing chalk dust all over XD

Well, I managed to please my Baron and Mayor. All the platinum furniture came in handy.

I had an annoying double-gobbo-whammy today.

A kobold thief, then a goblin snatcher came to bother me today, so I sent my military dorfs against both. Then, a freaking goblin ambush arrived while my military was out hunting down the thieves.

In response, I removed all the slopes on the hill I built my fortress into. The goblins have been using them to reach my fortress quickly, so I want that advantage crushed. I will leave one slope, which I will heavily trap. This shall not stand!

I let my engraver go on with engraving the Baron's room. A while ago I went to check on how well he did blinging it up. He turned the Baron's bedroom, dining room, throne room and tomb into Royal versions.

    Uhh.

Well, the good news is I have the King's room prepared well in advance for if I ever manage to become the capital :p

A goblin seige arrived. It's all archers, so I'm not sending my military in a rush. Just gonna let them get caged trying to storm the entrance. Annoyingly, they're not actually moving, so I'm allowing my dwarves to work in the immediate areas of my fortress while keeping an eye on them.

I've read that enemies have the omniscient ability to know all ways in and out of your fortress. I've decided to use this to my advantage.

I'm going to make an underground tunnel leading around a big wall and drawbridge I'm building, and I'll open it when a seige arrives. I'll also connect it to the river. When enemies arrive, I'll open up the passage, wait for them to go in, and then seal it off when they actually get inside, and open up the connection to the river Very Happy

    Bam, Gobbo drowning chamber!

The drowning chamber was more of a giant toilet that flushes Goblins down into the caverns the water is meant to drain into XD

The dwarves failed to link up the bridge that was supposed to stop the water from draining, so the gobbo got flushed into the caverns instead of drowning XD

Then, about half the goblins didn't even go into the drowning chamber, so I just sicked my military on them. I discovered military dwarves are terribly at following orders; they kept trying to leave to have training sessions in the middle of the fight.

There's a hilarious disparity in the skill level of my melee and archer dwarves.

My archer squad is lead by a Master Marksdwarf, and several of the squad's members are Great or Talented Marksdwarves. My melee dwarves are hovering around proficient.

I realized, to my emberassment, that I had a Master armorer and weaponsmith, but neither of them were making their appropriate equipment type.

I made another metalforge and assigned one specifically to the armorer, and the other to the weaponsmith.

in other news, my Danger Room is ready, so it's time to make Dwarves out of my melee squad Very Happy

I put a few ordinary dwarves into my Danger Room and, five minutes later, I had a few Swordmasters and Hammerlords @.@
