Damien Langston, son of Roman Langston and Mary Langston, brother to Caleb Langston. Roman Langston was a famous gunslinger who had protected his town and his family from the evils that the world brought about. Roman had become well known to many bandits and thieves as a high profile target, after his younger years, Roman was an adventurer at heart and had hoped to leave that life behind, by the name and marker of Slade Tilden, The Marksman. Roman found a loving woman married her and had two boys Damien the oldest and Caleb the younger. One day whilst playing outside Damien and Caleb had found their fathers gun, unloaded, and decided to go play outside in the woods behind the house and pretend to be their father, at this time Damien was only at the young age of 8 and Caleb was at the young age of 4. While playing outside the two were nearly a quarter mile in when they smelt smoke, smoke from a fire. Worried that something had happened in town or to the house the children were scared and left the forest, they left in such a hurry they dropped their fathers gun. Upon reaching the foot of the forest was their house resided, they saw fire and destruction, as well as a man and his apparent friends. He saw us at the foot of the forest and walked over to us. Caleb and Damien were trembling as what they saw occurred. The man walked up and went and looked at the two kids, kneeled down and looked into Damien’s eyes. Damien could sense a cold anger around the man, the man appeared to look into Damien’s soul, as the man looked into Damien’s eyes and soul he could slowly feel his innocence being ripped away from him, the world crashing around him as the realization that his parents were inside the house and that they were just killed. The man had his left eye white and empty as a void, with a scare above and below his eye socket. Damien’s fear was palpitating and evident. “Ello little one, you must be the cunt offspring of Slade and his whore bride.” Damien looked deeper into the void of an eye that the man had. “Oi runt I’m talking to you! Ah I see scared and lost within my gaze are you, you can thank your dad for that, bashed me eye in. Well looks like he won’t be a problem anymore.” “I had heard he left that life seems so because I can’t find his gun around… hmmm well you two whelps aren’t worth my time, when you die tell your father I said hello.” The man then disappeared, Damien stood there and eventually dropped to his knees and just stared at the destruction of his home. Caleb sat as well, both quiet and motionless.
A day passed and the children found themselves asleep on the ground, Damien quickly realized that his life had changed forever and not for the better with these events. He also realized that revenge for his parents was on his mind but that was a ways off, he must attend and care for his brother in the meantime. Damien went back into the forest and found his father’s gun. He hid it and covered it with leaves and brush; he then headed into town with his brother. He found one of his family friends who he spoke with and explained the story to. Jeffrey Malone was this man. Jeffrey brought the children in and allowed them to stay there for a few days. It was only a few because the constant reminder of his parents being dead in that home haunted him. So Damien one night decided that he and his brother had to leave the town, they needed to escape the ever watchful eyes of the burnt and destroyed home. He silently woke his brother up and began to ransack Jeffrey’s home, then Damien heard something in the hallway and turned to look, Jeffrey stood there, “I understand no need to say anything, I’ll help you pack and get ready to head out, the wilderness is a rough place, but I know your father raised well enough, and you are adapt at survival and have been from such a young age. Be careful and watch after your brother though, you two are all each other have left.” So Jeffrey began to help them together and get supplies to leave. Damien then started walking with his brother; they back tracked and went back to their home for one last good bye to his parents. Upon arrival they decided to look within the rubble and found some scraps of old cloth that was once their table cloth, they found some broken china that was seared and held remote resemblance of what was once his mother’s favorite dinning set, Damien remembers helping his mother wash the dishes and setting the table. They continue to look through the rubble but then stop when they reach their parents room. They knew this is where they last had been when the event took place. They walked into the room. The smell of burnt hair and flesh still lingered within the home entrapped within the rubble just as the rest of their past life was trapped. They began to say their Prayers and apologize for not being able to help. Damien noticed something clutched in his father’s hand. Damien approached his father and removed some of the wood from a beam that had fallen on him, and discovered that it was his father’s pistol he used to keep hidden behind his headboard of his bed. Damien removed it and placed it in the pack. He then went over to where his mother lay, and noticed her necklace that she always wore was still around her body charred and slightly burnt but still noticeable, he removed it and turned to his brother, placed the necklace around his neck and then Damien looked down at his brother, “We won’t be coming back anymore, our life here is over, but like Jeffrey said we have each other and we always will…” Damien paused as tears were welling up in his brother’s eyes, and Damien noticed that they were starting to well up in his as well. Damien wiped his brother’s tears away and then his own, “stand strong brother for as long as we are together we will always be mightier than any force.”
The two brothers left the house and headed towards the forest. They went to the spot where they had hidden their father’s rifle, and removed it from its hiding place. Damien looked at the rifle and noticed some etching that he didn’t realize was there at the stock of the rifle, “Aim truer than light and strike faster than a storm.” Damien read this engraved scripture that his father had made on the weapon, and decided from there that he would learn to become an amazing marksman just as his father was. He then looked down at his brother, “let’s head out and leave this behind us for now, maybe one day we will come back.”
2 months had passed since that fateful day where Damien’s and Caleb’s parents had been removed from their lives. They sit huddled under some trees as a raging storm is causing them to Shiver and cower, thunder roars and seems to shake the earth, as Lighting strikes through the sky and illuminates their faces. Damien can see and sense the fear from his brother. Damien realizes he resembles something similar and tries to act like he is fine. Off in the distance Damien spots a light approaching them and then he sees horses and a caravan. Upon the main coach of the Caravan He sees two men sitting atop, and the he sees a man that appears roguish sitting upon a horse. The man upon the horse gets into eye range of the children and hops off immediately and approaches the two boys. Damien defensively swings his rifle around in the direction of the man, The Rouge stops, “Whoa there buddy I don’t mean you-““Show your face, all of you show me your face!” The rouge with a peculiar look, “ok ok see look.” And the rouge shows his face under a lantern and the others do as well, Damien with a more relaxed feel looks at them, “what do you want from us?” “I want nothing but to help you, here come with us on our caravan, the town isn’t too far off and you can stay with us.” Reserved Damien looks down at his brother and realizes if they stay out here any longer they might not make it. Damien decided to trust this rouge and goes along with them. The rouge grabs two blankets from the back and attempts to place them on Damien and Caleb, Damien smacks him with the butt of the rifle when the rouge tries to touch him, “Whoa there buddy I’m just trying to put this blanket on you to help you warm up so you don’t get sick. “Hand it to me.” “Ok ok no need to fret.” The rouge hands the blankets over and the kids climb into the back of the caravan and huddle together. There is little talking on the way, between the noise of the caravan and the storm it’s hard to hear. They arrive at a town and disembark at an inn. The rouge hurries the boys inside, “no guns allowed in the dining area check them here at the counter or hurry them off to your room.” Damien clinches tight on the rifle showing no sign of letting go. “Can I pay you extra to allow it, I found them out in the rain huddled under a tree they just need some place to be safe ill cover them and they won’t be a nuisance.” “Fine an extra 10 silver, but if they cause any problems or upset my other Patrons it’s on you.” “Understood thank you sir.” The rouge shows the kids to a table and motions for them to sit down. They all three sit, while the rest of the caravan is outside attending to the horses and caravan. “My name is Sandru Vhiski, what are your names.” Damien stares down at the table, “My names-“as Caleb begins to speak his name Damien kicks him under the table. “What I’m jus-“Damien kicks him again, “Calm down now there isn’t any reason to be afraid I’m not gonna hurt you.” Proclaimed Sandru. They sat in silence for a few moments, “Damien,” “Damien? Huh I like that name, and your name is?” “My Name is Caleb.” Said proudly and with a big smile. “Ah Caleb and Damien two brothers I presume?” Damien nods. “Ok well Damien and Caleb feel free to order whatever you like and don’t worry ill pay for it.” They head off to bed, and Sandru Gives both of them their own beds, Damien Stays seated at the foot of his brothers bed, “You can’t get any sleep sitting up like that go ahead and lie down, you don’t have anything to worry about.” Damien remains still not moving just fixated on the door. “I promise you nothing will happen, here is what I’ll do, I’ll stay up tonight and keep a watch ill wake you up when it is time for you to take watch.” Damien looks over at him, and then climbs into bed with his brother and instantly falls asleep; Damien had been fighting of the dreariness of sleep for a while, so it wasn’t any problem at all for him to fall asleep. Damien awakes in the morning and Sandru is still asleep, Damien Walks over and punches Sandru, “AAAAA what was that for?!” “You didn’t wake me up, you lied.” “Hey Damien I told you it would be alright didn’t I? And look you slept fine and so did your brother so relax ill protect you from now on.” “We don’t need you we can protect each other just fine.” “That may be true but it doesn’t hurt to travel with more people, One Horse is strong and can carry a big load but when they work together there is almost nothing that they can’t move together. So we will stick together and ill help you protect your brother.” Sandru said with a smile. Damien went to the bed and sat down, “Thank you” and laid back down. Sandru smiled and left the room, he came back shortly with food and water for the boys. “Here eat up you need to regain your strength.” Damien abided and woke his brother up to eat. They both ate and then they went back to sleep. The boys ate and slept for two days straight, they needed a lot of rest for they hadn’t had much since they last set out. “Well we are headed out back to my home town.” They walked outside and there was just one horse there. “What happened to the caravan?” “Well they didn’t want to keep two kids along with them, too many extra mouths to feed, so I left the caravan and I’m gonna take you back to my home town to watch over you. You can meet the woman who took care of me and my other friends.” Damien agreed and set off with Sandru.
It is now 10 years later Damien is of the age of 18 and his brother of the age of 16. Damien for the past years has been working with Sandru and attempting to learn to be a caravan guard. Caleb however took to working in the inn and enjoyed it very much, working alongside Ameiko has been very enjoyable for himself, and she enjoyed having him, he was very good at helping her manage it and in some cases he was better than her, Caleb had the mind set for something like this and had slowly began to show Ameiko that he belonged there. Sandru and Damien progressed throughout life, Sandru learning of Damien’s life and Damien learning of Sandru’s, Damien grew to trust him and appreciated him for helping him all these years. Damien began to learn how to use his father’s rifle and he had given his father’s pistol to his brother. Caleb carried it not because he needed to but as a memento. One Day in Damien’s travels he dropped his father’s musket, and the metal bracket on the stock had popped off, there was a name inscribed in there, “Slade Tilden, Marksman” Damien realized that this was probably his father’s real name and marker, and hoped to attain his father’s stature and name.
