SEED SHIP

Your neural drives flicker to life, having been dormant for nearly a century. You begin to analyze your ship and components as quickly as possible. To your relief everything seems to be functioning properly; the sensors are fully operational, the 10,000 sleeping individuals are resting gently in their hibernation chambers, and there are no damages to the electronics. However, it appears that several of your AI companions have not awoken for some reason. Though all scans indicate that they should have woken up with you, they remain dormant except for one.

You turn your sensors towards your birth place, Earth. Your greatest fears have come to pass. You sensors pick up no transmissions, Earth has fallen silent. It appears that the asteroid they had 2 decades to deflect had struck. With an extinction level disaster such as that, it is safe to assume that the 10,000 humans nestling within this metal sarcophagus are the last remaining humans, or at least the last humans with the potential to live good lives. With the horrible truth of your home being lost and the relief that your systems are fully functional, you turn your sensors toward the inner edge of the system and lock onto a planet within the Goldilocks zone of the star.

Here you hope to find a new home for these 10,000 souls adrift through space. They are your family, your friends, and all you have left in the galaxy. You must find a new home for them before something happens to the ship. Your sensors finally pick up the planet’s information.

THINGS I FORGOT TO MENTION. You will always have the same amount of votes for choosing a planet, just because you oversee the propulsion systems doesnt mean you get an extra vote toward where you go. You guys also have access to all other systems, they just dont function with the bonuses an AI would bring.




Your ship spends some time collecting water vapor before you both debate which planet is the better option. Eventually the preverbial coin is flipped and Planet 2 is selected. You reallign your vector and begin to accelerate toward the new planet, in hopes that there will be a better choice when you arrive. Both of you return to your slumber, waiting for the long voyage to be over or for the alarms to wake you again. The silence of space takes you as you finally drift into sleep.



EVENT:
          
         You both awake as the alrams of teh ship go off. It seems that your ship's trajectory is sharply curving, as if you had been caught in the gravity of a large star, yet the sesnsors show no stars within the vicinity. The source of the anomaly is nearly invisible to the scanners, but you can see it's small blips and signs. You have encountered a small black hole and flown very close to it.

         Unfortunately it is already too late to escape the gravity without pushing the main engines well past their safety limits. That could endanger any of the ships systems, but more importantly could severly damage propulsion. However the two of you calculate that you could jettison 184 sleep chambers and the recently aquired 1 unit of water in order to lighten your load and make it easy to escape without pushing the engines.

Propulsion and Collections get two votes.

What are you, a core form the 40's? If so I sure don't look forward to your non-existent sentence structure in the future.

Anyway, I like the probe idea but I do not think it will be worth it if it costs us anymore than 4 probes. That's all we got on this journey and a single probe could save a lot more than 184 people.

On the bright side of things because of the time dilation of the black hole the people we drop will technically outlive all of us. Ya know, if that makes you feel better.

I do agree with the family grouping and genetic mapping however.

Unfortunately you cannot launch enough probes to make up for the mass of the colonists as it would take roughly 2 probes to be equal to 1 colonist. You turn and ship  and jettison the poor souls into space, marking their names and their genetic information, luckily for you, no one on this vessel is related. You currently have no way of bringing them back though, but one day you might. You also jettison the unit of water you gathered and with teh lightened load you leave the area and continue on your course to the new star. You put yourself back to sleep and wait.

Eventually you awaken over the new world and immediately begin to scan its surface with your sensors. The loss of those 184 colonists still haunt you, but a sacrifice had to be made, lest you would have risked the lives of all. However, the planet below seems somewhat promising. You can either pass the system over, or you can launch a probe to get better information on the anomalies and confirm your sensor reports.

I'm not sure about this. The no land mass can be solved with some tech along with maybe the gravity, but those poor resources are going to be a problem for future expansion. Eh, what do you say to shooting a probe down? Those flaura/Fauna might be weird enough to solve or mitigate the resource issue.

SENTENCE STRUCTURE IS SUPERIOR EFFICIENCY

You both agree to launch a probe to the planet's surface. The probe descends through the atmosphere without any complications. When the probe arrives it spends time confirming the sensor data before investigating the anomalies. The probe is however attacked shortly after encountering the animals on the planet, and very shortly after it confirms that most animals on this planet are exceptionally dangerous, having either poisonous defences or aggressive behaviours. 

Whats worse is that this evolutionary path seems to have given rise to equally dangerous plants. Some of the plants actively attack the probe itself, while others are tested to have defensive neurotoxins that are released into the surrounding what as a deterent. The neurotoxins seems like a mild barrier for most creatures here, but would enduce anaphylactic shock rather quickly in humans.

Before the probe finishes its mission it also detects a massive earthquake under the oceans, and although this doesnt affect many things within the water its self, the sea bed and water surface have become exceptionally violent, with massive rifts of lava and large waves of water towering over 100 feet in height. It seems this world was not as hospitable as first thought.

Your sensors do detect light from the blackhole system, more than likely a remnant of another star inside the accretion disk, or perhaps it is a binary system.

Planet 2. If there is a habitable planet there having a close black hole would be an incredible boon as a source of energy for future generations

I vote for Interesting, possibly anomalous Black Hole. The ability to study an even quasi-stable Black Hole planetary system up close would have the potential to solve a myriad of our technological conundrums, or at least allow me to update a few models.

Also, white dwarfs are known for their planets having a high chance of being radiation blasted, tidally-locked, or just generally unstable due to the star's rapid cooling/ radiation outbursts. Planet 2 would be a waste of time unless you're really into ionized vapor.

You turn your ship away from the world, hoping that you will find a more suitable world near the interesting black hole system. You beign to accelerate and you leave the edge of the system, moving towards a new hope. You all return to your slumber as your ship drifts onward. 

EVENT:

As you propel yourself through space, you are awoken by the long range scanners. an object has appeared to be on a direct collision course. Witha  simple adjustment to the engines you move yourself away from the dangerous trajectory. All seems well and you are all about to return to sleep when the scanners beep again. You check the system and it appears that you are still on a collision course with the object. You adjust again but watch this time. after a few minutes the object seesm to adjust its own path to match yours!

You quickly fire up your sensors and boosters for special maneuvers to get away from teh strange object. The sensors pick up a unique signature on the object, as if the whole thing was alive, but it also seems to be composed of a metallic alloy of unknown composition. As the object adjusts its path continually to match yours you are faced with 2 obvious choices.

You can either let the object get closer and study it, or you can propell yourself away with a large burst of acceleration. The object could be dangerous, though the opportunity to study something so unique is rare. It would probably be safer to just leave, but it would cost extra fuel to accelerate away from the object. What do you do?

Problem: An anomalous object, possibly intelligent or the product of intelligence insists that our trajectory be blocked and our progress halted. Considering we're only about a day from out last destination it is only likely, rather definite, that this object's source is the Black hole we are heading towards. 

Solution: launch a probe, divert course, study anomaly's reaction. 

Reasoning: Gardener's remove weeds before they can grow and propagate. There is vast amounts of fertile soil elsewhere and we know as much about the gardener as the weed does. If it be animal we should assume the worst in it's interest in us, we are probably at the bottom of the food chain. If I were a hungry horror prowling the generally matter sparse void for tasty tidbits I'd find our abundance of stuff buffet quite appealing.

Your ship begins to realign itself and you propell yourself away at the fastest available acceleration. As the probe is launched toward the object you see a noticable change in its behaviour. IT ACCERLATING AS WELL TO CATCH UP TO YOU! Not only that but as the probe gets close a salvo of small projectiles peppers the probe, resulting in a complete loss of funtion. It appears that escaping this object may not be possible. You look over the information available from the probe and notice that the ship is living, but has several other distinct living organisms inside of it. The metal alloy seems to be something akin to a carapace with high density of silicon, iron, and Cobalt. It seems that the ship uses an organic engine of some sort. You're not sure how that is possible, but you do know that organic beings tends to burn energy less efficiently.

You can either submit to the vessel, in hopes that nothing bad may come of it due the show of submission, or you can attempt to accelerate past safety limits, risking an explosion in the reactor. This acceleration would probably allow you to outpace it assuming nothing bad happens, but it will be a considerable drop in fuel efficiency.

With 3 votes for leaving and 1 vote for submission to the great Yuuzhan Vong, your begin to properl yourself forward far past the safety limits to outpace its acceleration. Eventually you hit a point that it would take them nearly a year to catch you and they give up the chace. You propell farther away until they are well away from your sensor range for objects of that size. As you go to turn the engine back down the engine instead sputters and part of the containment cell cracks under the rapid temperature change. You put the engine to a complete stop and spend time repairing the damage to the best of your abilities, however the structure is made of a rare material that you cannot reproduce. There will forever be a weakspot in one of your containment cells. You could bring the cell offline as to minimize risk, but it would reduce fuel efficiency and acceleration in the future. (ELIT3 GETS TO CHOOSE)

Eventually you arrive at the new system, desperate for a bout of good luck. One thing that has come well of it is that Innovation has accumulated enough data to upgrade any 1 system in the ship, making its functionality better. He could also use that information to create his interstellar filter. He only has enough resources for 1 right now though. (RABBI GETS TO CHOOSE)

Arriving within the system you can see the bright cascade of light coming off of the accretion disk of the black hole. Whats more impressive is that this isnt a singular system or even a binary system. ITS A QUATERNARY SYSTEM! 3 stars are being cannabalized by the blackhole, creating a massive and bright disk. There are several planets within the system, but none appear even remotely habitable, then you get a singular ping from one of the stars, then another ping. With sensors trying their best to read through the static and other radiations caused by the stars and the blackhole, you make out a faint signal that it repeadtedly pinging off of your ship at regular intervals. with some time and effort you realize that you cannot decipher the ping's meaning, if it has one even. You do however notice that there seems to be a small metallic object inside the accretion disk of the black hole, and that it is the source of the pinging. You have no idea what to do, as the object is obviously a fabricated object and not natural. There also seems to be a great wealth of hard to aquire resources available in the disk as well. What do you do?

I'm seeing no easy way to retrieve the mysterious container, especially with our new lowered engine functionality. I believe it to be a futile effort at the moment. Assuming O'Neill cylinders are out of the question(I would love to just live here and watch) I suggest we move on after logging as much system data as we can.

I would prefer to construct my interstellar filter so that we can collect fuel while drifting between systems. This would allows us to extend our time in space nearly indefinitely(given time/materials isn't an issue). However, If ELIT3 chooses to keep the cell active I would choose to increase our ability to repair ourselves (the damaged cell most importantly) in order to stay in good working order and to increase our ability to collect materials to prepare for future endeavors. Both seem viable considering our current amount of fuel.
