Experiments

The room was dark, a light red glow from my computer the only luminessence. I sit up from my sleep and listen at the faint scratching sound i can hear at my door. It's a light sound, similar to pawing, but with nails involved. I get up and wonder to the door yawning. The swings open as i clap my hands in the rythm it needs to open. I yawn again, knealing at the sight of a young black kitten with a bluish hue to its fur. "Do you need something Artemis?"

"Of course Shen. Why else would i bother you at this hour?" The cat responds as it walks into my bedroom.

"I don't know," I shrugged, "To annoy me, you tend to do that alot now adays." The cat turned and stared at me, with a look that read You dick.

"Don't think that because I'm a cat i can't kick your ass." Artemis said as she climbed onto my bed and curled up on the pillow. "I came here to ask you a favor."

"What does it involve?" I yawn

"Well my brother Apollo has found himself in a bit of a rough spot." The cat purred wildly as she fluffed the pillows with her claws and rolled across them. "He's gone off and he's been captured my the magistrate. They're trying to confine his magic and I know I can't free him on my own."

"How the hell did the magistrate catch him?"

"He sorta... lightning bolted one of them in anger... in a city market."

"Well I'll work on it tomrrow morning it's almost midnight and I'm tired from my testing." I pick up Artemis and set her on the ground as i climb into my bed again.

"Would you mind if i slept with you tonight. Its awfully scary when im by myself."

"Yeah sure whatever... pervert."

My dream swirls throughout my head, almost as if i was there... but i was actually there. I recognized the scene almost instantly. It was the hallway outside of my room at the Inn. I could hear myself talking to Artemis and then suddenly the air outside of my room condensed into an odd shape of a man. The whole scene began to blur and I could see a sharp smile slide across the mans face, then just as instantly as he had appearedm he dissipated into a mist and crept away.

I shot up in my bed, with sweat sliding down my body, I was hot and the stuffy room didn't help. I got up and moved myself over to the window, opening it to see a thick blanket of fog carpeting the entire city. i could hear chariots and people bustling through the streets below, but i coudln't see them. "Artemis. It's time we left to go find some friends of mine at the barracks." I turn and see the cat curled up in a ball on the pillow next to mine. I sigh and grab the cat, stuffing it into my satchel.

"MUAWAH!" She yelped as I threw her in the bag.

The streets bustled with people and the buildings rose three stories above the street. thatched rooves and mudstone bricks composed this part of town. I pushed myself through the crowd following the bleak ball of light that was the sun. After awhile I had reached my destination. A large inn, nestled between a forge and a cobbler. I checked the contents of my bag to make sure i was ready with everything I needed. Low and behold it was all their.

"One cat, elenfroot map, 50 Gs and currative pixie dust. She'll be pleased i think." I said, stroking Artemis' head. I walked forward opening the door to the inn, hearing the soft hymn of the local trabodaur. I look up at the musician and she stop's playing her song.

"Excuse my good patrons, but i must talk with a friend of mine quickly." she hoped off of her stage and strolled toward me, her short blonde hair, similar to that of a man's, but cleaner, bounced. Her ears protruded over half a foot and were pierced multiple times. Her eyes were a stoney grey and her body the perfect hourglass figure. She was, afterall, an elf. "Hello hello" she said as she reached my table. She leaned over and kissed me lighlty on my cheek. "Did you bring her?"

"I brought her Silla," i said smiling. I opened up my bag and Artemis hopped out.

"ARTY!" Silla yelled as she clutched the cat in her arms with a tight hug. "OH GOODNESS! I haven't seen you in over 6 decades. What have been up to?"

"Exploring mostly." The cat responded.
"She's being hunted by the Magistrate. Apollo's already been taken." I said sourly.
"I see," Silla set down Artemis and then put her hand out. "If you want help you know what i want."
"I have the map and wage right here." I hand her a map to her homeland of Elenfroot and the cost to hire a man crazy enough to try and move through the fog. "We have to get Apollo back from the magistrate."
"you seem to be under the impression that this can be done." Silla unfurrled the map and began to read it.
"If we don't try-" A metal covered hand suddenly slammed against the table causing it to crack. A man in golden armor stood tall with the symbol of the magistrate carved into his chest plate. He leaned in to me and stared hard.
"I don't like it when people start talking about breaking in to the magistrate!"

"Listen sir," I mumble. "We've got no intention of trying to break into any place, that would be against the law and we are humble citizens that wouldn't endanger the populace by breaking a law put into establishment by an officer such as yourself. We were simply speaking hypethetically."
"Do you really think I'm that stupid?" The guard said angrily.
"I was really hoping so, since most of your men can't tell the ass end of a donkey from your face." I Smriked and ducked under the table from the swing that the guard threw. I popped up with the table on my back, slamming it into his chin and sending him tumbling backwards. He hit another table and broke through it, the ale spilling into his eyes.
"FUUUUUUUUUUUUU-" He screamed in pain as the crystals in the dwarven ale torn at his eyes.
"Right i think we should be going." I grabbed Silla by the hand and sprintedout the door and down the street, a fleet of guards following us from the tavern.
"GODS DAMNIT SHEN! Why do you always get me into these frickin things." Silla yelled
"Shut up and run!" I yelled. I turned my to see how many of them were following us. Five and another group was heading down an allyway to get ahead of us. BAM! I smash hard into someone and hit the ground in pain, but Im up within seconds. "Sorry," I stop and look at the man wearing a white long sleeve collared shirt, a nice vest and black pants. "Do I know- HOLY SHIT!" I notice the guards before i finish the sentence and I sprint to catch up with Silla, pushing people out of the way.
